Client Brief
To provide a ‘traditional garden’ full of flowers. The planting should complement the theme of escape and relaxation, in a cottage-style and provide a haven for wildlife, in particular birds, dragonflies, butterflies and bees. The garden is on a slope, so terracing of some kind is essential with the use of steps, the use of beautiful and graceful plants that will sway in the wind. The garden must be as secluded as possible with a real sense of privacy. To the front of the property to introduce a gravel terraced garden at the front of the property, north side, running from the higher ground of the driveway to the lower ground by the single electric gate. Drought-tolerant plants will add colour, shape, form and texture in the newly created gravel garden.
Planting Design
We chose soft, harmonious colours for the plants, such as blues and greys with touches of pink, purple and yellow, as well as ornamental grasses that sway in the wind. Introduced borders for shrubs, herbaceous perennials and bulbs, using a good variety of straightforward reasonably undemanding mixed planting to give year-round interest and drifts of bulbs suitable for naturalising and some architectural plants as accents within the scheme.
