The project provided the site with a new visitors centre and café facilities funded by The Heritage Lottery Fund and grants from trustees and supporters. ABIR architects designed a cluster of modern buildings which references the materials and informal arrangement of built form that exists on site.
Nicholas Dexter Studio were involved from the very beginning to improve the visitor experience upon arrival and integrate the buildings into the landscape. We also designed new parking areas and an access path which meanders through the existing woodland making it safer for families and visitors with mobility issues.
The old millpond was completely restored with a new liner to overcome the leaks and marginal planting to soften the edges.
